BACA in India

Sharing expertise.
Shaping resilient
urban futures.

We are growing our network in India, bringing international experience in flood resilience and water-centric design into new local collaborations.

BACA has offices in Thane/Mumbai and Pune.

01 A shared challenge

Too much water.
Too little water.
One connected system.

We are expanding our presence in India to help developers and local authorities create places that thrive with water. Building on our participation in Innovate UK’s Global Business Innovation Programme, we are sharing international expertise in flood-resilient, climate-adaptive architecture while building lasting partnerships with India’s designers, engineers, innovators and communities.

Our approach brings architecture, landscape, infrastructure and low-carbon technology together from the outset. We see flooding and water scarcity as connected design challenges. By understanding how water moves through a catchment, a neighbourhood and a building, we can help clients shape development that manages risk, uses resources responsibly and creates beautiful, commercially viable places.

02 Research into practice

Rooted in LifE.
Designed with water.

Our expertise is rooted in LifE — Long-term Initiatives for Flood-risk Environments — which we developed as part of the UK Government’s Defra Making Space for Water programme, with BRE and a multidisciplinary team.

Landscapes slow, store and guide flood flows. Buildings respond to their setting. Public space supports biodiversity, wellbeing and everyday life.

03 Exchange in action

International experience.
Indian ingenuity.

In India, we are developing this thinking through exchange. In Chennai, visits to the Integrated Command and Control Centre and IIT Madras Research Park showed how real-time information and construction innovation can strengthen urban resilience. Conversations across Chennai and Coimbatore reinforced the value of combining our experience with local knowledge, governance and entrepreneurial ambition.

04 Growing together

From conversation
to collaboration.

With AMs Project Consultants, our presence in Thane/Mumbai and Pune connects our design expertise with local delivery teams.

Through industry and academic exchange, including the NICMAR alumni network, we are sharing knowledge, testing ideas and building relationships. Emerging work with Greenspaces marks another step.
