Background
Situated on the Red Sea coast of Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, the Yanbu Dive Centre is envisioned as a new landmark for marine discovery, education, and coastal tourism. The centre captures the spirit of exploration that has defined Yanbu for centuries, transforming its maritime heritage into an experience rooted in sustainable waterfront development. Inspired by the sculptural forms of the desert and sea, the Dive Centre rises from the landscape like a natural formation shaped by wind and water. Arches, pinnacles, and carved surfaces echo the surrounding geology, while soft light and tactile materials create a sense of warmth and calm. The architecture celebrates the meeting of land and sea, guiding visitors through a sequence of spaces that deepen their connection to the Red Sea and its fragile ecosystem.
Beyond a destination for divers, the centre is a place for learning and renewal. It fosters awareness of marine conservation and sustainable tourism, offering visitors a contemporary space to reconnect with nature. By merging water architecture and flood-resilient design, the project stands as a symbol of how culture, climate, and creativity can come together on the waterfront.
