The rising form is reminiscent of the rock of Gibraltar, spiritual home of the marines. The giant granite blocks, raw on the one side and honed on the other reflect the process of becoming a marine. The wall is curved in plan, forming the edge of a giant circle that conceptually links every marine in each part of the world.
